Davis versus Davis: Keyshawn targets Gervonta ‘Tank’

Keyshawn Davis may not have a title yet, but he’s already setting his sights on WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

He delivered a star-making performance on Friday night, when knocking out Gustavo Lemos in two rounds at Scope Arena in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. Victory could propel him to a title shot next.

The 25 year old is the second brother of the boxing trio known as DB3 that also includes his eldest brother Kelvin and his youngest brother Keon. All three won their respective bouts on Friday night. Describing himself as “an entertainer”, Keyshawn didn’t shy away from calling out the biggest name in US boxing — Gervonta Davis.

“Tank knows what time it is,” Keyshawn said. “He knows I want to fight him. So send me a contract, Gervonta.”

Referring to his bold challenge, Keyshawn added: “The only person that doesn’t like it is him—he’s kind of weird. Now he has no choice but to fight. The fans want him to fight me.”

With a record of 8-0 (6 KOs) and an Olympic silver medal, Keyshawn fought three times in 2024. Meanwhile, Gervonta, 30-0 (28 KOs), has fought only once in the same period, when stopping Frank Martin on a pay-per-view card in June. The 30-year-old Baltimore native had been expected to face Lamont Roach Jnr on December 14 in Houston, but that has become unlikely.

Keyshawn highlighted his dominant win over the 28-year-old Argentinian Lemos, 29-2 (19 KOs), who came in 6lbs overweight and in April had tested Richardson Hitchins, as a reason he should fight his namesake.

“After what I did against a guy who’s bigger than him?” Keyshawn said. “C’mon now, if I touch him, what’s going to happen?

“Everyone wants to talk about, ‘Oh, Keyshawn, what if he touches you.’ What if I touch him?”
