EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso native Kayla Thornton received her 2024 WNBA championship ring on Tuesday.
Thornton, a member of the 2024 New York Liberty squad that won the WNBA Finals last year, was presented her championship ring right before the Golden State Valkyries vs. Liberty game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Thornton received her championship ring while she was surrounded by a lot of her former Liberty teammates and in front of a passionate crowd at the Barclays Center.
The former UTEP and Irvin High School basketball standout returned to New York on Tuesday as a member of the Valkyries. She was picked up by the WNBA’s newest team in the expansion draft last December.
Thornton’s scored 13 points and recorded 6 rebounds in Tuesday’s contest. At the end of the day, the Liberty were too much to handle for Thornton and the Valkyries. New York played its way to a 95-67 win over Golden State on Tuesday.
