After the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, the WNBA is gearing up for the second half of their season and approaching the final stretch.
Before the games on Thursday, Aug. 15, ESPN released its rankings of the “Top 25 WNBA Players at Midseason,” causing controversy and sparking debate on social media.
A’ja Wilson was unanimously chosen as the top player in the WNBA. Wilson leads in points per game [27.2], rebounds [12.0], and blocked shots [2.9]. She recently won the MVP in the gold medal game at the Paris Olympics and is the favorite to win her third regular season MVP.
Breanna Stewart, last year’s MVP, was placed at No. 2 on the list. Both Wilson and Stewart were crucial in Team USA’s victory over France in Paris.
Caitlin Clark fans react to ESPN’s rankings
However, fans of Caitlin Clark strongly disagreed with her placement at No. 15 on the list, considering it an insult and demanding explanations.
Some fans praised Clark’s offensive skills and playmaking abilities, while others debated her ranking compared to more experienced players.
Chennedy Carter expresses discontent with ESPN’s list
Chennedy Carter, a standout player for the Chicago Sky, expressed frustration at being ranked 24th. Despite her impressive stats, Carter felt that her achievements were overlooked due to her lower playing time.
The list also features rookie sensations Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, along with other new names such as Dearica Hamby, Kayla McBride, and Carter.
