Sep.6 (GMM) Stefano Domenicali has hinted that Formula 1 will soon have “many” grands prix in Europe.
Currently, Europe only has 9 races on the 24-round schedule, despite being the traditional heart of the sport.
However, there is talk of F1 expanding to new hosts and rotating some European rounds annually starting in 2026.
Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps, Imola, and Barcelona are potential candidates for the alternating scheme, allowing them to pay lower fees to F1 and keep their grands prix alive.
During the unveiling of F1’s new sponsor Banco Santander in Spain, Domenicali was asked about the possibility of Germany returning to the calendar.
“Germany has always been part of our calendar and has a strong motorsport tradition, but currently, there is no grand prix there,” he explained. “We are working to find the right partners to bring back a race to Germany.”
Despite the calendar being capped at 24 races per year, a system of rotating races allows the sport to expand within Europe.
“In 2026, there will be some interesting developments,” Domenicali hinted. “We are in discussions with European organizers to announce something soon.”
“2026 will see many grand prix in Europe, with multiple options currently on the table,” he concluded.
