Falkirk round off Women and Girls in Sport Week with derby win

Falkirk remain top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship after a 3-1 home win against local rivals Stenhousemuir at the Falkirk Stadium.

Both teams brought good crowds and youth mascots to a lively derby which concluded Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week 2025, and it would be visitors Stenny who opened the scoring after 10 minutes, skipper Jude Connolly finding Kyla Thomson down the left-hand channel, who cut in to finish well.

This served to energise their hosts, however, with Caitlin MacFarlane grabbing a quick brace to put Falkirk in front, before Vhairi Munro found herself in space to guide it into the bottom left corner for a third.

Stenhousemuir started the second half brightly but were unable to add to their tally and neither side added to the score despite end-to-end football at times.

Elsewhere, Forfar Farmington produced an impressive 3-0 victory at home to Dryburgh to remain second, Rossvale and Renfrew battled a competitive 2-2 draw, Inverness Caledonian Thistle halted a poor run of results with a 2-0 home win to Armadale Thistle and Morton impressed against Ayr Utd with a 4-1 victory. Bonnyrigg Rose climb to third in the table after beating Glasgow Girls 9-1 at Budhill Park.

In Barclays Scottish Women’s League One, Inverurie Locos reclaimed second place from hosts Airdrie CC with a thrilling 5-4 victory. Suzanne MacTaggart had Airdrie in front after 11 minutes before Locos top scorer Vikki Riddell and Airdrie’s Avril Johnstone traded a brace each in between goals from Antonia Adams, Sophie Jamieson and Vicky Wood. Locos’ Charlie Elliot would grab the winner two minutes from time.

The result also moves them closer to leaders Queen of the South, who found themselves 1-0 down to Westdyke in Aberdeenshire before they forced an own goal deep into injury time to rescue a point. Elgin City move up to fourth after a 5-2 win in Meadowbank against Edinburgh Caledonia, while Dunipace and Glenrothes Strollers played out an entertaining 2-2 draw and St Mirren held on to a 1-0 lead in Dunfermline to notch their second win of the season.
