Forfar Farmington kick off Barclays Championship game with 4-1 victory over Morton

Forfar Farmington have got their Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship campaign underway with a 4-1 victory at Morton.

A postponement on the opening day had meant the Angus side had to wait to open their account, but it was the home side who opened the scoring early through Ava Riddex. Forfar were 2-1 in front by the break though, with strikes from Shauni De Koning and Yasmin McCagh. And in the second half, new signings Melissa Regmi and Derrian Gollan made it a comfortable win.

Ayr United continued their strong start to the season, moving atop the Championship after beating Armadale 5-1 in West Lothian, with the returning Rachel Scott grabbing herself a hat-trick. Falkirk took all three points from the Highlands, beating Inverness Caley Thistle 3-1 with goals from Anna Dickov and Erin Snell. A brace by Aofie Gauld helped Dryburgh Athletic to an impressive 4-1 win over Renfrew and Stenhousemuir defeated Glasgow Girls 5-2 at Ochilview.

In the later kickoff, Rossvale came from a goal behind to beat Bonnyrigg Rose 3-1 in Kirkintilloch.

Results in Barclays League One underlined just how close Scotland’s fourth tier will be this season.

Westdyke, Inverurie Locos and Airdrie Community Club all recovered from opening day defeats to win in week two.

Westdyke put two past Dunipace at home without reply, Inverurie Loco Works showed their League One experience in a 3-0 home win over Glenrothes Strollers, while Airdrie defeated visiting Cambusdoon 3-2. Praise Adebo scored a hat trick to complete an impressive comeback by St Mirren at home to take a 3-3 draw from an Edinburgh Caledonia side who were three in front with less than half an hour to go.

Dunfermline Athletic looked comfortable in their first home game in the national leagues, putting six goals past Hutchison Vale without reply to move to the top of League One. Queen of the South sent Elgin City on their long journey home after edging them 2-1.

Elsewhere, Buckie Ladies wrapped up their time in the ScottishPower Highlands and Islands League with a 2-0 win over Clachnacuddin to win their third title before moving to SWFL North and the SWF pyramid.

The semi-finals of the ScottishPower Highlands and Islands league cup saw Shetland and Sutherland progress to next month’s final in Nairn with victories over Caithness and Orkney respectively.
