Former Chicago Sky Star Makes Decision After Calls to Team-Up With Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Former Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter has not played in the WNBA this season. Carter’s most recent stint in the league came last season when she appeared in 33 games (20 starts) for Chicago, averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists. She signed a training camp deal with the Sky and quickly emerged as the team’s top scorer in 2024, starring alongside Angel Reese.

Despite her solid performance last year, Chicago declined to extend a qualifying offer, making her a free agent at season’s end. That decision left Carter without a team for the 2025 campaign and has now opened the door to a new chapter in her professional career.

Chennedy Carter Makes Career Move

After averaging a career-best 17.5 points per game for Chicago in 2024, Carter entered free agency with many expecting her to find a new WNBA home. However, despite being linked to several franchises, nothing materialized. Fans lobbied for her return, but Carter remained a free agent entering the 2025 season.

Without a team, Carter soon set her eyes overseas and eventually signed with Adelitas de Chihuahua, a team that plays in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional in Mexico.

Following her stretch in Mexico, the 26-year-old appears to be heading for a new adventure, and will be signing with Saudi Arabian club Al Ula. Although Carter has yet to comment publicly about the move, she retweeted a fan post of her arriving in Saudi and holding her new team’s jersey.

Details of her contract remain unclear, including whether the arrangement is a short-term stint or part of a longer commitment. The move also leaves open the question of whether she intends to pursue another WNBA opportunity in the future.

For Carter, however, the trip to Saudi Arabia is just the latest in a growing list of international stops, having previously played in Turkey, China, and Mexico—often putting up star-level production far from the league that made her a household name.

WNBA Fans Have Linked Chennedy Carter to the Indiana Fever

As Carter has remained out of the WNBA, calls have mounted for her return. This increased recently when the Indiana Fever suffered season-ending injuries to guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald. Several fans weighed in, urging Indiana to sign Carter — despite her history with Caitlin Clark.

Carter’s WNBA career has been marked by both high-level scoring and occasional controversy, including infamously shoving Clark during a game last year. However, her talent has never been in question—and her latest move abroad keeps her in the basketball spotlight, even if it’s outside the league

Carter was drafted fourth overall in 2020 by the Atlanta Dream, becoming the highest selection in Texas A&M history. She averaged 17.4 points as a rookie and earned All-Rookie Team honors. Over four seasons, Carter has played for the Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, and Sky, appearing in 84 games and averaging 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
