Chelsea have announced that Norwegian international Guro Reiten has completed a move to NWSL side Gotham FC.

The versatile 31-year-old will join the two-time NWSL Champions initially on loan ahead of their season opener against Boston Legacy on Saturday. Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League season, Reiten — who will then be a free agent — will join the American side on a permanent basis until 2029.

Reiten first joined the Blues from Norwegian side LSK Kvinner and has since experienced the most successful period in Chelsea women’s history with 13 trophies to her name.

During her six-and-a-half-year tenure in West London, the fan favourite has won the league title each season she has been at the club. Hitting the ground running immediately, she scored seven goals in her first season in England, earning her a nomination for Player of the Season.

After being deployed on the wing, former Blues manager Emma Hayes deployed Reiten at an attacking left wing-back position, which like always, she excelled in.

In her new position, she scored 11 goals, including a second half strike against Manchester United on the final day of the campaign. Reiten also pleased fans with her 25-yard stunner against rivals Arsenal in the semi-final of the Women’s FA Cup.

In the 2023/24 season, Reiten improved on her previous goal tally and bagged 13 this term. Her ever-present availability saw her make 39 appearances across the campaign, more than any other Blues player.

Her performances in that campaign were influential as Chelsea secured another league and FA Cup double.

During the season-long title race against Manchester City in Hayes’ final season, Reiten made sure her manager left with another WSL title. After City lost to Arsenal, Chelsea needed to beat Bristol City and improve their goal difference.

Up stepped the Norwegian who bagged four goals in their dominant 8-0 victory against the newly promoted side. She then assisted twice in the 6-0 victory away at Old Trafford that saw them seal the title on goal difference.

Under Sonia Bompastor, Reiten suffered with injuries but still proved important as the side won the domestic treble undefeated. It was during this record-breaking season that she scored her 50th goal in the blue of Chelsea.

Reiten will be firmly etched into Chelsea’s history and remembered by fans for years to come. She now departs the club with 207 total appearances and 59 goals scored.

The NWSL awaits

Joining the American outfit, Reiten will reunite with two former Blues — Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter — who she experienced much of the success with.

Juan Carlos Amorós will hope the versatile and seasoned international will help his side build on their eight place finish last season.

Ahead of her move, Reiten said: “Gotham has built something special over the past few years, and there’s clear ambition here. I’m looking forward to working hard, learning and doing everything I can to help the team succeed.”
