The Indiana Fever locker room felt different after Thursday night’s loss to Phoenix. Not because of the score, but because Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald weren’t walking out with their teammates. In a season already testing every limit, the Fever just discovered how much adversity one franchise can handle.

What Do the Latest Indiana Fever Injuries Mean for Their Playoff Push?

The Fever recently announced that Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after both guards sustained injuries during the August 7 clash with the Phoenix Mercury.

Sydney Colson (left ACL tear) and Aari McDonald (broken bone in right foot) will both miss the remainder of the season after suffering injuries during our game in Phoenix on Thursday.

Colson’s injury came in the first quarter when she tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee. McDonald suffered a broken bone in her right foot late in the fourth quarter. The announcement sent shockwaves through a fanbase already watching their team battle for playoff positioning with a 17-14 record.

While neither player’s scoring numbers jumped off the stat sheet, McDonald was averaging 9.8 points per game and Colson was putting up 2.4 points per game, their leadership and energy were vital to the Fever’s success. The loss cuts deeper than numbers can show.

How Are Fever Fans Responding to These Season-Ending Injuries?

The fan reaction was swift and emotional. Many expressed heartbreak over seeing two key contributors’ seasons end so abruptly.

“Gutted for them… Syd is such a leader on the team and Aari was playing great! Might as well take a flyer on Megan McConnell, would be a good story and the fans would get behind it,” said one fan.

Beyond the sympathy, fans quickly pivoted to solutions. The most popular suggestion? Signing Chennedy Carter. The explosive guard who has spent time with the Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, and most recently the Chicago Sky, averaged 17.5 points per game in 2024 with Chicago.

Carter’s scoring ability and knack for creating instant offense have made her the top choice for fans demanding immediate help.

“Ain’t no more options to hide behind it’s time,” wrote a fan while posting a Carter GIF.

However, the injury crisis extends far beyond Colson and McDonald. The Fever have also been without Caitlin Clark, who has missed the last nine consecutive games due to a groin injury. In total, Clark has missed 19 regular-season games and 20 contests overall in 2025, including the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final.

With their franchise cornerstone sidelined, fans are growing increasingly desperate for her return.

“Please let CC hurry back now!” wrote one user.

Meanwhile, one fan took a completely different approach to the team’s depth concerns. With a dose of humor mixed with desperation, they suggested that WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, who retired this past February, should come out of retirement and suit up for Indiana.

“Can Diana Taurasi unretire?” wrote the fan.

The math is simple but brutal: with the loss of two more key contributors, Indiana’s playoff path just became exponentially harder. Whether through a signing like Carter or Clark’s speedy return, the Fever need immediate help to keep their postseason dreams alive. Time is running out, and the roster is running thin.
