Lewis Hamilton drove a Ferrari Formula 1 car for the first time today at the team’s Fiorano test track.
Ferrari fans gathered in the early hours of the morning anticipating the first appearance of the seven-times champion in one of the Scuderia’s cars. He eventually took to the circuit at 9:16 am local time at the wheel of the team’s 2023 car, the SF-23. The car carried last season’s livery plus the logos of new sponsors such as UniCredit.
Hamilton waved to the tifosi as he toured the three-kilometre course where Ferrari have tested their road and race cars for decades. He took to the track in cool and damp conditions on a set of full wet weather tyres at first before switching to slicks.
For his debut in a Ferrari, Hamilton sported a new helmet design featuring a yellow colour scheme similar to the one he wore at the beginning of his F1 career 18 years ago at McLaren, and when he first joined Mercedes in 2013.
