Napoli have made an official bid for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, but it falls well below United’s asking price.
United are desperate to raise funds for new signings while complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules, so they are reluctantly considering selling the talented Argentinian.
The Red Devils are believed to be looking for a minimum of €65 million, reduced from €75 million.
Yesterday Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Napoli were willing to pay €50-€55 million.
However, a fresh update today from another Italian guru, Fabrizio Romano, claims the formal bid lodged by the Serie A side is lower than that and that it has already been rejected by United.
“Napoli’s opening bid for Alejandro Garnacho worth €50m package add-ons included; Man United want more,” Romano posted on X this morning.
“Antonio Conte keeps pushing after the call with Garnacho on Friday.”
While the base figure is not disclosed, most United fans would probably agree that in pounds, a £42 million total package sounds very low for a player with Garnacho’s ability and potential.
Meanwhile, Romano adds that “Chelsea made contact with United and player side, now deciding internally whether to bid or not.”
The Blues already have a United left winger, Jadon Sancho, on loan with compulsory purchase at the end of the season.
However, with a potential four-year ban hanging over the head of Mykhailo Mudryk for a drugs offence, they are clearly keen to bolster their ranks in that position.
Chelsea have also been linked with yet another United left winger, Marcus Rashford, although it has been reported that United’s part-owners Ineos have refused to sanction a move to a Premier League rival.
Whether they would agree to the sale of Garnacho to the same league is unknown at this time.
