SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s tennis team split a pair of ACC matchups at home this past weekend, moving to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The No. 36 Fighting Irish dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 54 Miami on Friday, but bounced back with a 4-2 win of their own against Florida State on Sunday.
Bojana Pozder was the bright spot in singles, recording a 2-0 weekend. She has now won four straight, improving to 5-1 in dual singles matches. Pozder knocked off Miami’s Dominika Podhajecka, 6-4, 7-5, then clinched the match against the Seminoles, beating Cade Cricchio, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
On Friday, Rylie Hanford secured a ranked win on court four, knocking off No. 102 Aely Arai, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Hanford also was closing in on a 2-0 weekend, but her match was cut just short, as she was up 6-4, 4-6, 6-5, unfinished. Hanford is now 7-0 in dual singles matches.
Speaking of win streaks, Akari Matsuno defeated Mary Boyce Deatherage of FSU, 7-6(1), 6-1. Matsuno is now tied for the longest win streak on the team at 11 alongside Jessica Kovalcik, moving to 13-4 overall on the year and 8-0 in duals.
