Second-year guard Kate Martin is eager to have a fresh start as she tries to spearhead the Golden State Valkyries when the WNBA unfurls next month.
Martin had a meager rookie campaign as she was buried on the bench of the Las Vegas Aces. Fans clamored for coach Becky Hammon to give more playing time for Martin but to no avail.
The former Iowa standout only averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game.
With the Valkyries, the WNBA’s latest expansion team, Martin could see an expanded role under coach Natalie Nakase, who was previously Hammon’s deputy on the Aces.
