LAFC have expressed strong interest in signing Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son, according to reports.

Son, who turns 34 next week, has just over a year left on his contract after Spurs opted in January to activate a one-year extension clause rather than negotiate a new deal.

That decision postponed any talks over a longer-term future, leaving room for speculation as the summer transfer window progresses.

According to reports, LAFC are prepared to make a move should Son indicate he’s ready to leave.

While Tottenham are not actively pushing him out, the club is reportedly open to allowing him to depart if the right opportunity arises.

Son previously turned down a big-money approach from Saudi side Al Ittihad in 2023.

Despite rejecting that move, interest from Saudi Arabia has not gone away. Now, with Major League Soccer on the table, Son faces a tough decision.

Asian Tour Delay

Son’s immense popularity in Asia has complicated the timing of any possible transfer discussions.

Spurs are set to head on a pre-season tour that includes matches in Hong Kong and Seoul, where Son is a national icon.

The tour wraps up on August 3, after which the team returns to Europe to finalise preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

New Spurs manager Thomas Frank has acknowledged Son’s long-standing contributions to the club, which include becoming just the seventh player to reach 450 appearances and contributing 198 goals and assists in the Premier League since joining in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Frank has not confirmed whether Son will remain club captain this season.

When asked recently about the forward’s future and whether he had earned the right to decide it himself, Frank said: “It’s always tricky, situations like that … if that happens.

“Right now I have a player that is fully committed and training well and will play tomorrow.

“If a player has been at a club a long time, then there will always be a decision for the club to take.

“Because there is something in it if someone wants to leave at a certain stage … then there can be something there. But the club will always decide in the end.

“First and foremost, he’s here now. I’m not worried too much about it. Let’s take that five or six weeks down the line. That will probably [be a question] I get the following week, so I’ll practise my answers. Right now, he’s here.”

Son finally lifted his first trophy with Tottenham earlier this year when they won the Europa League final against Manchester United, capping off a remarkable milestone season.

But whether he stays for another chapter in North London – or makes a move to the US or Saudi Arabia – remains to be seen.
