Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado (21-0, 15 KOs) emerged victorious against a tough compatriot on Saturday night, but it was a hard-fought battle. The 29-year-old junior welterweight narrowly defeated Bryan Flores (26-1-1, 15 KOs) in a 10-round split decision.
Delgado fought strategically, managing to drop Flores with a counter right hand in the third round. However, Flores fought back, landing his own punches and pushing Delgado to the ropes in the middle rounds.
In round seven, Flores had a point deducted for a low blow, leading Delgado to increase his offense in the eighth round to disrupt Flores’ momentum. The two fighters exchanged blows at close range in the final two rounds.
While one judge scored the fight 96-92 in favor of Flores, Delgado secured the win with scores of 96-92 and 95-93.
Delgado commented, “The victory was hard-earned, but I enjoyed every moment of it. It was a challenging fight, and we had to remain focused to come out on top.”
“He was determined to win and threw powerful punches, but we were able to secure the victory. I am now looking forward to a shot at a world title.”
