Manchester United midfielder Irene Guerrero has joined Liga BBVA MX Femenil side Club América on a permanent deal.
The Red Devils confirmed news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.
Irene leaves Manchester United after spending just one season with the club. The 27-year-old Spanish international midfielder made seven appearances for The Red Devils in all competitions. Just one of Irene’s outings came in the form of a start.
The move to Manchester United saw Irene play her football outside of her native Spain for the first time in her career. The player started out at Real Betis before spending two seasons at Levante UD. Irene then had one year with Atlético Madrid before joining Manchester United.
Competition for places in The Red Devils’ midfield areas has been strong, resulting in Irene being offered limited game time. The player needs minutes ahead of next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO and Irene will now look to get back on track in the Mexican top flight with Club América.
Irene is the fourth player to leave Manchester United this summer. Lucía García, Katie Zelem and Mary Earps have also left the Leigh Sports Village during the close season.
