Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid academy defender Joan Martinez.
The 16-year-old has quickly risen through the ranks, featuring in the UEFA Youth League for Real Madrid’s Under 17s. He even made an appearance for the senior team in a recent pre-season match against AC Milan in Chicago.
Expected to play for Real Madrid’s Under 19 team this season, Martinez has also represented Spain’s under 17 side in 11 matches.
The Red Devils have shown interest in adding young talent to their squad, with reported deals for promising players like Chido Obi-Martin, who at just 16 years old could potentially contribute to the senior team next season.
Additionally, United is close to finalizing a deal to bring in Crystal Palace’s highly rated 16-year-old Samuel Lusale.
United, along with Chelsea, are said to be monitoring Martinez’s situation, as per a report by Spanish paper AS.
Martinez’s rapid improvement has caught the attention of top clubs across Europe, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on the player’s progress.
While speculation surrounds his future, Real Madrid remains calm, confident that Martinez is content with his current development at the club.
A self-professed Real Madrid fan who looks up to Sergio Ramos, Martinez may not be inclined to move at this stage of his career.
Described as a “complete, dominant, and elegant” centre back, Martinez possesses tactical awareness and technical ability that allows him to adapt to various playing systems.
Although a potential transfer seems challenging at the moment, Martinez is definitely a player to watch for the future, as Manchester United strives to recruit some of the most talented young prospects worldwide.
