McLaren has extended the contract of team principal Andrea Stella amidst a period of personnel movement between teams. This year has seen notable changes in leading personnel within Formula 1, making McLaren’s decision to secure Stella’s services even more significant.
Stella took over as team principal in December 2022 and has overseen a period of rapid progress for McLaren. Under his leadership, the team has achieved two Grands Prix wins, 18 podium finishes, and one Sprint win.
Before becoming team principal, Stella held various roles within the team, including Head of Race Operations and Performance Director, before being promoted to Executive Director, Racing in 2019. Prior to joining McLaren in 2015, he gained valuable experience at Ferrari working with top drivers like Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso.
McLaren has also secured long-term extensions with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, demonstrating their commitment to stability and success in the pursuit of World Championships.
Stella expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead McLaren, noting the progress the team has made and the challenges that lie ahead. McLaren CEO Zak Brown praised Stella’s leadership and expertise, highlighting his impact on the team’s performance and culture.
Stella took on the role of team principal after Andreas Seidl’s departure to Audi, who recently announced the appointment of Mattia Binotto in place of Seidl.
