There’s an obvious improvement with the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA season. One of the reasons for the team’s improved outing has been the emergence of veteran guard Brittney Sykes. While she is the second-oldest player in the team at 31, that hasn’t stopped her from being the most important.

In nine games played, Sykes has averaged 20.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists. This is the time in her career when she’s averaging at least 20 points. Mostly known for her defensive prowess, the 5-foot-9 guard has taken over the Mystics with her scoring.
But the WNBA has noticed something else about her game besides her ability to score.

After Week 3 of the season, the league honored Sykes as one of the best floor generals. She’s now fifth in total assists with 42. She trails Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum (47) and New York Liberty guard Natasha Cloud (53). Seattle Storm icon Skylar Diggins-Smith and Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams are tied in first place with 58 assists.
Just like her scoring, the Mystics guard is having one of the best seasons with her passing. She’s averaging 4.7 assists, the first time in her career where she’s close to at least five dimes a game.

Last season, Sykes only had 55 assists in total, as she was limited to 18 games. The most assists she’s had in her career was 153, in the 2023 season, her first year with the Mystics.
This season, she could reach a new record with the way she’s getting her teammates involved.
