On September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) climbed two weight classes to dethrone Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) by unanimous decision.
It was a history-making victory for “Bud,” making him a three-division undisputed champion and a four-division lineal champion.

The opening rounds were cagey and full of intrigue, with Crawford looking to move and frustrate Canelo, while the Mexican landed the occasional hook.
Crawford continued to move well as the fight progressed, putting together fast combinations before slipping out of danger. “Bud” even began to sit down on his punches, which drew cheers from the crowd and seemed to surprise Canelo.
An accidental head clash failed to disrupt Crawford, who even began to back Canelo up at the end of the fight. The judges had it closer than many, but the Omaha native was the rightful winner, triumphing by unanimous decision with cards of 116-112 and 115-113 (x2).
A Netflix X post revealed “Over 41 million global viewers watched Canelo vs Crawford on Netflix, making it the most-viewed men’s championship boxing match this century!”
Crawford vs Canelo – the future for both
It remains to be seen what the future holds for both fighters. Crawford has said he wants time to think about his next move, but whatever he decides, this victory will age well and be discussed for many years to come.
Could we see the Omaha native defend his titles? Or move down to 160 and clean up, or even retire? Whatever he decides, Crawford deserves his place on the boxing Mount Rushmore.
Canelo appears determined to carry on. Turki Alalshikh met with him following the fight, and it was later revealed that Canelo intends to fight twice more for Riyadh Season in 2026.
