It’s been five years since Netflix and Ubisoft have come to an agreement about the use of IP for shows on the streaming platform and it’s been very silent around the planned Assassin’s Creed live-action series in that time — but it looks like there’s some movement now.
According to Variety, the project is set to move ahead under the leadership of Robert Patino and David Wiener as showrunners and executive producers. Patino has previously worked on shows like DMZ, Zero Day, and Westworld, while Wiener has worked on Halo, Brave New World, and Fear the Walking Dead.
The names of Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Matt O’Toole, and Austin Dill are attached to the show as executive producers as well. According to Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, the series is “an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ franchise and invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience the thrill of the Brotherhood as never before.”
The show is set to focus on the shadow war between the Assassins and the Templars. The latter seek to control humanity’s fate, while the former want to protect its free will. “The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny,” Variety described.
