Juan Soto is not yet close to making a decision on free agency, but there are reports suggesting that he is asking for a significant contract from interested teams.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Soto is seeking a 15-year contract that would take him to his age-40 season, likely including some opt-out clauses.
Soto does not seem interested in a short-term deal with a high annual value. He could potentially earn more with such a deal, but opt-outs in a longer contract could offer similar opportunities.
Heyman also reports that bidding for Soto has progressed to a second round, with the New York Yankees improving their initial offer. Some teams are reportedly willing to offer over $600 million to secure the star outfielder, with five teams heavily involved in negotiations.
Soto, who recently turned 26, is considered the top free agent on the market. He is putting up Hall of Fame-level statistics and has a chance to become one of the most expensive free agents in history, rivaling Shohei Ohtani.
