Ben Shalom is expecting to announce the rematch between Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron – followed by a respected opponent for Frazer Clarke.

A second fight between the 27-year-old Whittaker and Cameron, at light heavyweight, has been sought after since October’s technical draw, when Whittaker, controversially, was unable to continue as a consequence of injuries sustained when falling from the ring.

Cameron, 34, has made little secret of his desire to again fight an opponent considered one of British boxing’s most promising talents, and Boxxer’s Shalom, who is preparing a second promotion in April, in England’s Midlands, to complement that on April 26 headlined by Chris Eubank Jnr-Conor Benn, told BoxingScene of the proposed rematch: “It looks good. I think we’ll have news in the next week. It’ll be in the Midlands.

“Ben’s doing very well now. Hopefully we’ll have some big news on him.

“We want the rematch. We’ve made that offer. A few things have calmed down – it probably got a bit out of hand. But the reality is we want the fight and the offer’s there. I expect them to take it.”

On the same promotion Clarke, 33, lost for the first time as a professional when he was stopped inside a round by Fabio Wardley. He is on course to return on the same promotion – and later in 2025 Shalom wants to match him with Joe Joyce.

“[The likely opponent is] a fighter that British boxing fans will know well,” the promoter said. “I’m just amazed that he’s back so quickly, both mentally and physically. I think fans will be pleasantly surprised, but after what happened in October – he switched off for a second and he got punished – he needed time out.

“But the way he’s come back, and the fact he’s back in the gym with the bit between his teeth, having learned from the experience, I’m excited for the future. He’s a very popular, very talented, heavyweight that has learned a lesson. He’ll be back in a big way.

“There’s some big fights out there. We’ve always liked the Joe Joyce fight, given their history in the amateurs. The Johnny Fisher fight is a very fan-friendly fight, between two very popular guys. Then there’s also the David Adeleye fight, which I know is top of Frazer’s list, given their history. So, there’s some big domestic fights for Frazer Clarke.

“There’s a lot of history in that fight [between Clarke and Joyce]. It’s a rematch, and it’s a fight we looked at when he first turned over. Obviously Joe’s not had a great time of late, but Frazer, equally, coming off the back of a loss – it’s an interesting fight, and maybe one that we can make this year.”

Joe Joyce is to fight Patrick Korte at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England on March 1.
