The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has unveiled its extended 90-game schedule for the 2024/25 season on Tuesday, kicking off the second season on November 30th.
Featuring fresh branding with new names and logos, the league’s six teams will now play 30 games each, up from 24 in the previous season.
“Our teams and players are thrilled to bring their new identities to life, and the schedule release builds anticipation,” said Jayna Hefford, Senior VP of Hockey Operations, in an official league statement.
“With more games, new uniforms, a talented rookie class, and much more, the upcoming season promises excitement and competitiveness for the PWHL community. It’s going to be intense, competitive, and fun for both players and fans.”
PWHL teams to compete in six matchups each
Teams in the PWHL will face each other six times over the season, with three home and three away games scheduled.
The opening day will witness the Boston Fleet visiting the Toronto Sceptres at 2 PM ET, while the Montréal Victoire will host the Ottawa Charge at 5 PM ET. The defending champions, the Minnesota Frost, will commence their title defense against the New York Sirens at 6 PM ET on December 1st.
Continuing their defense, the Frost will face Boston on December 4th in a rematch of last season’s deciding Game 5.
The regular season will last until May 3rd, 2025, including three international breaks for events like the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour and the Canada-USA Rivalry Series.
Record-breaking first season leads to venue changes for some PWHL teams
With record-breaking attendance last season, some PWHL teams have moved to larger venues to accommodate the growing demand.
The Sceptres now play at Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum, which seats 8,140 fans, surpassing their previous home’s capacity of 3,850. Similarly, the Victoire now call Quebec’s Place Bell home, increasing capacity to over 10,000 from 3,795 seats.
The New York Sirens will be based at the Prudential Center for the upcoming season, following successful games there last year. Additionally, the schedule includes 14 games at neutral sites or larger arenas in home markets to manage demand.
Camps and contract negotiations shaping PWHL rosters
Team training camp rosters have been revealed, with final lists due by November 27th after camps and scrimmages. Each team can have a maximum of 23 players and three reserves.
Contract negotiations are ongoing, notably with top pick Sarah Fillier, who is seeking a shorter contract to enter negotiations earlier than the proposed three-year deal.
Season ticket packages on sale for the 2024/25 PWHL season
While broadcast details are being finalized, fans can purchase season ticket packages starting from October 17th, depending on the team. Single-game tickets will also be available on specific dates for Canadian and US teams.
