The White Sox are currently in search of a new manager and are narrowing down their options. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the three finalists for the position are Will Venable, Craig Albernaz, and Phil Nevin.
It has been noted that there is some overlap in the managerial searches of the White Sox and the Marlins. Venable and Albernaz are also finalists for the Marlins job, while Nevin seems to be primarily on the radar of the White Sox.
Nevin, at 53, is the only candidate with previous managerial experience. He served as the Angels’ interim manager in 2022 after Joe Maddon was fired. Nevin has a background in coaching and playing in the majors before transitioning into coaching roles with various teams.
Venable, another former player with coaching experience, has been an associate manager for the Rangers since 2020. He has previously declined managerial interviews but seems to be more open to the idea now.
Albernaz, who never played in the majors, has coaching experience with the Rays and Giants before joining the Guardians as a bench coach. He is rumored to be a favorite for the Marlins job due to his history with Marlins president Peter Bendix.
The White Sox parted ways with Pedro Grifol during the recent season and replaced him with Grady Sizemore on an interim basis. Sizemore was initially considered as a permanent replacement but the latest report indicates that Venable, Albernaz, and Nevin are the top contenders.
While there have been other names connected to the managerial position, it seems that the list has been narrowed down to these three finalists. Official announcements may be delayed due to ongoing playoff games.
