Rossvale and Renfrew keep Barclays Championship pressure on Falkirk with victories

Rossvale and Renfrew Ladies took advantage of Falkirk dropping points to close the gap at the top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship on International Women’s Day.

Rossvale beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-0 in the Highlands thanks to goals from Kirstin Harper and Emma Rogers, while in Renfrew Paige Henry continued her recent form with a 73rd-minute winner against Stenhousemuir after the visitors had levelled through Kyla Thomson just before half-time.

A storming second half by Dryburgh Athletic saw them come back from 2-0 down to snatch a point at the Falkirk stadium thanks to goals from Christie and Scobie, meaning Falkirk’s lead at the top of the table is cut to three points ahead of Renfrew.

Earlier Bonnyrigg Rose and Forfar Farmington played out a goalless draw in Angus and in Port Glasgow the match between Morton and Armadale Thistle was abandoned after a serious second-half injury to an Armadale player which required an ambulance to attend.

Dunipace looked to have returned to the top of Barclays League One after a late winner saw them clinch a 5-4 victory against Glenrothes Strollers in an end-to-end thriller. However a late flurry by Elgin City returned them to the summit in the late kick off with a 5-3 win after bottom side Edinburgh Caledonia looked to have dramatically equalised at 3-3 through Sophie Merson.

The loss puts the capital side further adrift at the foot of the table, with second bottom Dunfermline Athletic stunning St Mirren with a 1-0 win in Paisley. Other title rivals Queen of the South were held to a 1-1 draw by Westdyke, while Airdrie came away from Inverurie Loco Works with a 2-1 away win.

In the regional SWFL divisions, Arbroath remain top of North after a 9-1 victory in Blairgowrie, Edinburgh University Thistle stay top in East with a narrow 3-2 win in Penicuik and Bishopton notched up a club record win of 25-0 against Carron Huskies to stay atop West/Central.

Stewarton Annick kept up the pressure on South leaders Giffnock with a 6-0 win against Dalbeattie Star.

Meanwhile, Clachnacuddin moved to the top of the ScottishPower Highlands and Islands league after two games with a comprehensive 15-0 victory over Nairn St Ninian.
