Sheffield United have completed the signing of full-back Abbie Lafayette.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this afternoon.
The 22-year-old left-sided defender joins Sheffield United from FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Watford.
Lafayette was one of Watford’s most consistent performers in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season. The player made 20 appearances for The Golden Girls in the second tier in which she scored one goal. Despite Lafayette enjoying a progressive 2023/2024 campaign on a personal level, she was unable to prevent Watford from being relegated back to the third tier.
The Barclays Women’s Championship is very much Lafayette’s level and she will now have the opportunity to remain in the division this season with new club Sheffield United.
After joining The Blades, Lafayette said “I’m really excited. It’s been a really smooth transition, I’ve met a couple of the guys already and really settled in, so everything’s been great.
“Last season was a difficult season, but I really think I showed myself the best I could towards the end of the season which really helped me. It’s a season I think I can be proud of and I think there’s a lot I can bring to the team.”
Lafayette becomes Sheffield United’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
