ASUN Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida women’s soccer’s Allison Souers was honored as ASUN Player of the Week in the first edition of this year’s weekly laurels, as released by the league office on Monday afternoon.
“We felt Allison [Souers] could make an impact for us right away as a freshman,” said head coach Eric Faulconer. “Obviously, she did just that in her first career start scoring the game-winner versus Miami. She is a special talent and she is just going to get better and better with more experience. I am happy to see Allison receive this recognition from the ASUN.”
It is the first such honor of her career and the second ASUN accolade of 2024 after veteran Zara Siassi was selected as a Preseason All-Conference pick earlier this month.Â
Souers marked her collegiate debut with a beautiful strike that would lift UNF to a 1-0 victory over Miami on Thursday, Aug. 15. The freshman led the team with shots and shots on goal with three and two respectively, while logging 63 minutes.
Her game-winning goal helped the Ospreys earn its first-ever victory over a Power Four school and its first-ever victory against Miami in five matches. The Land O’ Lakes, Fla., native broke the goal scoring record for Cypress Creek HS, bagging 110 goals and 27 assists in 68 games.Â
UNF hosts Florida in its home opener on Thursday, Aug. 22, with first touch set for 7 p.m., at Hodges Stadium.
