Caitlin Clark’s impact on the WNBA has been overwhelmingly positive, although not everyone in the league has embraced her with open arms.
Sparks head coach Curt Miller, however, is not among those who have reservations about Clark.
With extensive experience in women’s basketball dating back to 1991, Miller has witnessed a lot in the WNBA since 2015.
Yet, in Clark, he sees a player unlike any other. After a recent game between the Fever and the Sparks, Miller was asked to compare Clark to other players.
In a detailed response, Miller likened Clark to WNBA legends and emphasized her importance to the league.
“She’s truly special,” said Miller. “I don’t have many comparisons. I see shades of Sue Bird’s pace in her game…I coached Becky Hammon early in her career, and she had a unique scoring ability. Caitlin exhibits similar qualities.”
Miller’s admiration for Clark’s talent in the WNBA may not be shared by everyone, but the majority response has been positive. Sheryl Swoopes, for instance, has had a notably different reaction to Clark compared to Miller.
Clark’s presence in the league is seen as a catalyst for elevating the WNBA as a whole, attracting more attention to a deserving league. Many have paved the way for Clark to make this impact, and she is not doing it alone.
It is encouraging to see individuals like Miller recognize and acknowledge Clark’s contributions to the WNBA.
