Let’s Play: Hello, Connections: Sports Edition
I’m almost embarrassed to admit how much I love playing The New York Times’ suite of word games. Did you know each day’s crossword and mini usually appear at 10 p.m. ET? I do, because I’m usually done with those in the first hour they see digital daylight.
Bedtime usually consists of trying to finish Strands, Wordle and Connections quickly while trying to find the Spelling Bee pangram. Then it starts all over again the next day. Imagine my joy, then, to officially introduce you to The Athletic’s first foray into the NYT game-verse: Connections: Sports Edition, which went live with a beta version yesterday.
The best part to me: The sports version is timed, unlike the flagship Connections game, which adds a little pressure. We’ll be sharing the puzzle links daily, along with my times/any gripes I have. Have feedback on the game? Let us know here.
Play today’s puzzle here. My time: 47 seconds, with one mistake. Good luck!

📺 WNBA: Fever at Sun7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNAn Indiana loss would end Caitlin Clark’s rookie season. Watch it for those stakes alone, and keep it locked to Phoenix-Minnesota directly afterward. Clark said yesterday that the eye poke from DiJonai Carrington in Game 1 wasn’t intentional, by the way.
📺 MLB: Padres at Dodgers10:10 p.m. ET on MLB NetworkThis game matters, as we wrote above. Just watch.

🎧 Two for you today: “The Athletic Football Show” broke down their favorite moments from Josh Allen’s masterpiece Monday, while “No Dunks” has a lovely interview with writer Hanif Abdurraqib. He’s great.
