Lead by Lauren Betts’ career-high 35 points, UCLA looked every bit like their No. 1 seed as they routed Oklahoma State Monday, 87-68, to earn a fourth straight trip to the Sweet 16.
The Bruins lead wire-to-wire, shot 52 percent on the night and turned the ball over just seven times. The Cowgirls outscored the hosts 42-41 in the last two quarters, but UCLA’s first half lead was too much to overcome. Gianna Kneepkens added 15 points and Kiki Rice and Gabriela Jaquez put up 10 a piece.
“I was just working really hard on getting seals,” Betts said. “My teammates did a really great job finding me. Some of those passes were absolutely insane.”
The 33-1 Bruins have been blowing out opponents lately, including a 53-point domination of Cal Baptist in the first round. They earned praise from Oklahoma State coach Jacie Hoyt.
“They have a team that I believe is capable of winning it all,” she said.
Achol Akot had 23 points for the Cowgirls, while Jaydn Wooten scored 18.
UCLA moves to the Sacramento regional, where they will take on Big Ten foe Minnesota Friday night.
