The United States’ journey to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title came to an end on Wednesday night in the semifinals with a 1-0 defeat to Korea DPR. However, the Americans will compete against the Netherlands in the third-place match at 5 p.m. ET on Sept. 21 at Estadio El Campín in Bogotá, Colombia, aiming for the bronze medal. Meanwhile, Korea will clash with Japan in the championship match.

This marked the U.S. U-20 Women’s Youth National Team’s first appearance in the semifinals since 2016, where they also fell to Korea DPR. It was their seventh trip to the semifinals. In this edition, North Korea has been dominant, outscoring their opponents 24-4 in six matches.

The U.S. advanced to the semifinals after two thrilling overtime victories, including a penalty shootout triumph in the knockout stage. In the quarterfinals, they overturned a 2-0 deficit against Germany, scoring twice in stoppage time to force overtime and eventually winning 3-1 on penalties.

Throughout their journey, the United States defeated Spain 1-0, Morroco 2-0, Paraguay 7-0 (with a hat-trick from Princeton forward Pietra Tordin), and Mexico 3-2, leading them to the quarterfinals. Tordin is the top scorer for the U.S. with four goals, while Sentnor has three.

This will be the U.S.’s fourth appearance in the third-place match, with one bronze medal from 2004.

The USWYNT has set a record this season with eight professional soccer players on the roster, all of whom, led by Sentnor, are in their rookie seasons with the National Women’s Soccer League. Other players include Claire Hutton of Kansas City, Gisele Thompson and Savy King of Angel City, Ally Lemos of Orlando, Riley Jackson of North Carolina, and Emeri Adames and Jordan Bugg of Seattle.
