Helmut Marko has praised Max Verstappen’s impressive performance at the Nordschleife, while also delivering what appears to be a subtle jab at Lewis Hamilton.
It was a triumphant Sunday for the Verstappen family: while Max’s father, Jos, secured the Belgian Rally Championship, Max himself triumphed in his debut at the 4 Hours of Nordschleife at the Nürburgring. To compete, the Red Bull driver had to obtain a Category A permit, which is required for participation in endurance racing.
Marko highlighted Verstappen’s dedication and commitment to motorsport, contrasting it with the activities of other Formula 1 drivers, in what was a clear dig at Hamilton.
“Yes, it was impressive. Just like the dedication he shows in racing. The others go to fashion shows or things like that. He goes to the Nordschleife – one of the most challenging circuits we have. I think it’s a very positive sign of how involved Max is in motorsport,” Marko concluded.
The target of the veteran Red Bull advisor is, of course, Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is well-known in the fashion world, with his presence at New York’s Met Gala being an annual highlight.
Hamilton was scheduled to attend the Ferrari Style show during Milan Fashion Week, but the mourning period following the death of his beloved dog Roscoe forced him to cancel all planned appearances, including last week’s Pirelli tests at Mugello.
On Thursday afternoon, Lewis Hamilton announced the passing of his loyal four-legged companion, who had been part of his life and family for 12 years. The British driver shared his sorrow, explaining that despite numerous attempts to revive his bulldog, he ultimately had to make the most difficult decision of his life.
