Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side are in control of their own destiny going into the last three games of the season.

The Toffees currently occupy eighth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table, although they could yet finish as high as fifth.

When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion at Walton Hall Park, Sørensen highlighted the fact that Everton have complete control over their final ranking.

“I don’t look so much at the table, it’s about performance week in, week out,” Sørensen said. “Of course, I’m happy that we are not near the relegation battle and that we are comfortable.

“Going into these last three games, we are playing the teams around us, so we can decide where we will end up if we win them. They’re very winnable games.”

This weekend’s opponents Brighton & Hove Albion arrive on Merseyside on the back of a patchy run of form. Despite The Seagulls’ recent results, they have continued their ability to score goals and Sørensen says that his side’s defensive solidity will be important.

He said “I know that Brighton are a very good team. They haven’t been getting the best results lately but the quality that they have available is very good. We faced them in the very first game of the season and lost quite heavily.

“After that, we have the fifth-best defence, so that’s something that we can rely on, being very solid behind. It’s going to be hard for them to break us down and also, we are now starting to pick up goals, we are building on that.”

Everton were able to claim an impressive 1-1 draw at Manchester City last time out. Sørensen was pleased with how his side performed despite having some injuries within the squad.

He said “It was real credit to the girls. We lost a couple of players [to injury] and had some that we decided not to rush back and jeopardise. We played the players that were healthy and I think they did really well. It was good to see that we still had the depth in the squad to go to [Manchester] City and do a very good job.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
