WNBA Coach Reacts Loudly to Historic Trade Involving Caitlin Clark’s Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After missing another five-straight games due to a groin injury, Caitlin Clark is expected to make her return when the Indiana Fever host the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.

Clark has missed over half of Indiana’s games during the 2025 WNBA season due to multiple injuries. Yet, averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 assists through nine games was enough to earn her another All-Star nod.
Clark was named to the All-Star Game for the second straight year and led all players in fan voting with 1,293,526 votes, earning her captain honors. She will be joined by Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, who was also selected as a captain.
On Tuesday night, the WNBA held its All-Star draft, where Clark and Collier selected their teams, starting with the starters and finishing with the reserves. In a WNBA first, the two All-Star captains agreed to trade coaches after the draft, with Clark swapping Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve for New York Liberty coach Sandy Brondello.

Following the Liberty’s 87-78 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, Brondello expressed her excitement during the postgame press conference about joining Clark’s All-Star team, especially with New York’s own Sabrina Ionescu also on the roster.

“I got traded,” Brondello said. “My son hit me up. I’ve created history, this is awesome. I got traded as a coach. I get to coach Sabrina and Caitlin Clark in Indianapolis… We’ll go out there and have fun.”
While Clark and Collier pulled off the surprise trade, some of their selections in the draft were the exact opposite. Clark picked her Fever teammates, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, as quickly as she could, while Collier did the same with her Lynx teammate, Courtney Williams.
The 2025 All-Star Game will take place on Saturday, July 19, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
