WNBA Legend Rebecca Lobo Makes Bold Prediction About Caitlin Clark’s Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Rebecca Lobo has been a legendary figure in women’s basketball for decades. From her time as a star at UConn under Geno Auriemma to her early years in the WNBA, Lobo helped shape the women’s game.

She led the Huskies to an NCAA Tournament title in 1995 and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. That season remains one of the most dominant in women’s college basketball history.

After college, Lobo became the face of the WNBA when she was assigned to the New York Liberty. In her debut, she scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. The Liberty reached the WNBA finals that year, ultimately falling to the Houston Comets.

Now a broadcaster and analyst for ESPN, Lobo continues to share her insights. On Monday, she made a bold prediction about the Indiana Fever’s near future, highlighting a key player ahead of Caitlin Clark’s return:

“Aliyah Boston’s efficiency has been off the charts in the last 4 games. Shooting 78% in that stretch (all without Caitlin Clark). She averages 12.8 FGA with CC and only 6.8 FGA without her, in similar minutes (31mpg vs 28mpg). Could be poised for a monster scoring outburst when CC returns,” Lobo tweeted.

Clark has missed the Fever’s last four games due to an injury and will also sit out Tuesday’s matchup in Atlanta. Her status for Saturday’s home game against the defending champion New York Liberty remains questionable.

Aliyah Boston, the top overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft after a championship run at South Carolina, has been stepping up in Clark’s absence. Now in her third WNBA season, Boston is averaging 14.3 points per game across 88 career appearances.

In Indiana’s recent blowout win at Chicago, Boston shot 4-of-7 from the field for 11 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. Kelsey Mitchell led the Clark-less Fever with 17 points in the 79-52 victory.

With Clark nearing a return, all eyes will be on how Boston’s performance evolves alongside her backcourt superstar. If Lobo’s prediction proves true, the Fever may be ready to make some noise the rest of the season.
