WNBA Makes Announcement as Paige Bueckers And the Wings Win Over Mercury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Things are going great for Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings as they captured their fifth win in seven games. On Thursday, they kept a 98-89 victory over the Phoenix Mercury, to their seventh win of the 2025 WNBA season. Rookie guard Aziaha James led the Wings with her 28-point outing.

James added six rebounds and six assists while shooting 55.6% from downtown. Her fellow rookie, Bueckers, added 23 points, four rebounds, five assists and a steal. The No. 1 pick of the 2025 draft also made history against the Mercury. The former UConn star recorded her seventh 20-point game of the year. She also secured the third spot for the most 20-point game for the franchise for a rookie.

After the Wings’ win, the WNBA recognized their win over Phoenix.

“The Dallas Wings win their 5th of the last 7 games as they defeat the Phoenix Mercury 98-89 👏” the league posted on X.

They also recognized James for being the fifth rookie to record at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and five 3-pointers made.

“Aziaha James went off for a career-high 28 PTS, 5 3PM, 6 REB, & 6 AST—becoming the 5th rookie in WNBA history to total 25+ PTS, 5+ AST, 5+ REB, and 5+ 3PM in a game!”

For the Mercury, Kahleah Copper had her season-high of 33 points as she shot 57.1% from beyond the arc. All-Star forward Satou Sabally added 20 points and two steals.

Phoenix suffered its second loss in a row after its 84-81 defeat against the Las Vegas Aces. The Mercury will return to action on Monday as they host the Wings for their second consecutive game. It will be the third time they’ll face each other this season.
