History

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – According to Lee University women’s soccer Coach Lee Hughes, Friday afternoon’s 2-0 victory over visiting Trevecca Nazarene Univeristy at the Ray Conn Sports Complex was not a prize-winning performance. However, the shutout was the Lady Flames’ fifth of the season and improved their GSC record to 4-2-1 and 6-2-2 overall. The visiting Trojans dropped to 1-3-3, 3-5-3.

Lee will not play this weekend but will return to conference action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will host the University of Montevallo. The Falcons are unbeaten in GSC play with a 6-0-1 record and stand at 7-2-1 overall.

The defensive battle saw the Lady Flames score one goal in each half. Lucy Smith put Lee on the board at the 21:18 mark in the opening 45 minutes. Her score was nailed into the bottom left of the goal off her right foot. It was her first score of the year. The assist was recorded by Megan Davis. The Lady Flames assist leader has five on the year.

The second and final tally came at the 66:53 mark of the second stanza. Siri Stenslie tallied off a corner kick by freshman Maci Ritzman. Stenslie also knocked her first goal of the year into the center of the net. Ritzman collected her second assist.

All totaled, Lee fired nine shots in the defensive struggle but placed six on goal. Davis had two shots on target while Analisa Lujan had one and Grace Berry joined Smith with the other.

The Lee defense held the Trojans to just six shots and three on goal. Abby Whitcomb was credited with three saves and got the victory. Trevecca keeper Mary Bauchou allowed a pair of goals and picked up four saves in being charged with the loss.

The Lady Flames fired seven shots in the opening half but just two in the second. Trevecca was held to one shot in the first 45 minutes but garnered five in the second. Lee picked up seven corner kicks and the Trojans only three. Each team was charged with seven fouls in the physical contest and no yellow cards were issued.

Coach Lee Hughes’ thoughts:
“We weren’t at our best tonight. Got to keep working to get better and we will continue that work tomorrow morning! Happy with the result though and for some time to prepare for the next one.”
