A first-half strike from Vhairi Munro against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Falkirk stadium was enough to maintain Falkirk’s unbeaten league campaign at the top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship.

Caley Thistle had arrested a spell of poor form with a battling 4-4 draw with Dryburgh Athletic last week and clearly looked up for the challenge of a visit to the league leaders, who found them full of spirit.

Inverness have creative young players who looked to make an impact, but Falkirk skipper Anna Murray used all her experience to win balls in the air and keep control. The Highlanders also needed a disciplined back line to cope with the movement of Munro and Anna Dickov, but were ultimately undone by Munro’s strike.

Renfrew Ladies remain in second place after a late free kick saw skipper Emma Baird score the winner with the last kick of the ball in their home game against plucky Dundee club Dryburgh. Forfar Farmington beat Morton 2-1 to climb into third, while Rossvale equalised late against Bonnyrigg Rose to rescue a point from Poltonhall.

Stenhousemuir climbed into the top six with a 5-0 win at struggling Glasgow Girls, and Ayr United beat Armadale Thistle 3-1 in Ardrossan.

There were a number of games called off because of the conditions across Barclays League One and the regional leagues, especially in the north east.

League One leaders Queen of the South were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Edinburgh Caledonia, while St Mirren moved level on points with second-placed Dunipace after coming from behind to beat them 4-1 at home. Dunfermline Athletic and Airdrie CC battled out a goalless draw in Fife.

Rossvale Development lifted the new SWF Development League Cup after coming from behind to beat Ayr United Reserves 4-1 in the final in Alloa.

SWFL North leaders Grampian had to postpone their game against Ross County because of a frozen pitch, but remain in pole position for a return to the national leagues, as do Giffnock Soccer Centre who beat Ardrossan Winton Rovers 12-1 to remain top of SWFL South.

Elsewhere In that division, Benburb recorded their first senior win since joining the SWFL in 2024, beating Dalbeattie Star 3-1. Following the away win, head coach Peter Green said:

“I couldn’t be more pleased for the players. Today marks the club’s first competitive win, and it’s a moment the players have truly earned. The hard work they’ve been putting in during training has paid off, and seeing their efforts rewarded on the field means everything.

“The final result showed the belief, resilience, and commitment of every player out there today. This win is a milestone for the club, and I couldn’t be happier for the team. But this is only the beginning. It’s a start, and we need to make sure we build on this performance. The standards have been set – now we keep pushing.”
