The Seattle Seahawks’ search for a new offensive coordinator is over.
Having fired Ryan Grubb following the end of the regular season, the Seahawks have made former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak their choice to run the offense. Seattle made the announcement official on Sunday afternoon.
What is Klint Kubiak’s prior offensive coordinator experience?
Kubiak, the son of Super Bowl winning head coach and former Denver Broncos quarterback Gary Kubiak, will be on his third offensive coordinator job in five seasons. He was the OC (and playcaller) for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, only for Mike Zimmer to be fired and the staff not retained. After spending the 2023 season as passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, helping lead Brock Purdy to an MVP finalist season, Kubiak was hired by the Saints to be their OC, where he served as playcaller.
How did Klint Kubiak’s Saints offense perform?
A red-hot start through the first two weeks of the season saw New Orleans score 90 points in blowout wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, that crash down to Earth was hard and heavy. A slew of injuries to quarterback Derek Carr, key offensive line starters, Chris Olave, Rasheed Shaheed, Taysom Hill, and eventually Alvin Kamara derailed the year.
New Orleans’ offense was 23rd by FTN’s DVOA, finishing 29th in passing and 14th in rushing efficiency. Kubiak’s offense was also 25th in EPA/play.
It’s hard to really gauge his Saints tenure given how many people were injured throughout the year. With Saints head coach Dennis Allen fired midseason, Kubiak was essentially destined to be finding work elsewhere (along with the rest of Allen’s staff).
Welcome to Seattle, Klint!
